This past weekend I went to a women's conference called Chosen. I like conferences. And it was extra awesome that a ticket was gifted to me for my birthday (thanks again, Rebecca!).
So, here are some tips on how to survive a women's conference:
1| have a friend around who brings a purse full of snacks, like my girl Anna (smart).
2| don't spend all your money at the conference store. I know here are many pretty, tempting things to buy. Spend some of your money, but not all of it.
3| when there's a women's sign on the men's bathroom door, just go for it. It's really not that bad in there.
It may sound like I'm joking, but there's a lot of wisdom to this, people!
Ok. Ok. Here's the more important stuff I learned...
The theme of the conference was "For such a time as this" taken from the story of Esther. If you're not familiar with the story, Esther gets chosen as the most beautiful in the land (flattering) and is forced to marry the king because he had his previous wife killed (scary). So here she is in the palace probably wondering how she got there and what she's supposed to do with herself now (Do you ever feel like this in life?). The story culminates with Esther's status with the king being the only hope of preventing a genocide. Here enters the line "for such a time as this" because it is now that Esther can see a purpose in her being wife to the (scary yet flattering) king. Spoiler alert: she stops the bad guy, saves the day and doesn't die!
Applying the story now to our lives, where are we at right now and what might our purpose be in this time?
This idea is what resonated most with me. Ben and I are living in Charleston now, so what's our purpose and what are we doing about it? I won't bore you with more details, but through the conference I learned that we've got room to grow in this season of our lives. There's a reason for this time, but we have to open our eyes to see and and then do something about it (or have our old uncle tell us to do something about it. Either way. Ha).
As a quote in one of my favorite movies, She's the Man, goes: "Malcolm! Could you please shed some light on the current situation?!"(you have to see the movie).
What's our current situation and what kind of light can we shed on it? Maybe when we do- when we reflect and consider our purpose- we will see exactly what it is or how it is that we have been called for such a time as this.
