I mentioned in my last post that the first few weeks of breastfeeding have been, to put it nicely, a challenge.
To put it not so nicely, it's been sooooooooo hard, super stingy, almost torture, and really painful. Just bad. Two words... raw nipples. Yeah, it was as painful as it sounds.
But hey, 8 weeks later and my nipples are all leathery and numb to pain!
Anyway... breastfeeding.
If you're breastfeeding you will probably want a good hooter hider. So why not make one?!
I can't take credit for the design... it was my friend Danielle who made one first and I copied. But she does't mind at all if I share :)
Here's what you'll need:
1/2 yard of your favorite fabric
1 sheet of felt
Scissors
Pins
Sewing machine
First, fold twice and pin about an inch around all the edges. You want to fold the edge of the fabric in so that you can't see it and it won't fray.
Next, fold the whole thing in half and cut a slit for your neck hole. You'll want to make yours further from the edge than I made mine. I'd say 5 inches from the edge would be best.
Here's me trying mine on for size.
Here's where the felt comes in. You'll want to cut a strip to fit the space between your neck hole and the fabric that rests behind your neck. As you can see, I didn't leave a big enough space, but I made it work.
I tacked my felt down to with my sewing machine make it easier to add into the fabric.
Then just pin your fabric around the felt strip and sew to secure.
Here's mine. A bit sloppy but functional.
(I think it would be a good idea to add a felt strip to the front, also. You know, so it's easier to peek down at your sweet babe. Wish I woulda thought of that before!)
All that's left is to hem the opposite edge of your neck hole!
Annnnd it's done!
