This past weekend was Thanksgiving and Ben and I had the pleasure of hosting some friends of ours from Kentucky. They were here four days and of course, like any good hosts, we made an itinerary of all the fun things we needed to do with them... Along with all the things we would be spending money on. Eek. I hate spending money- especially when cash flow is low, and for us right now, it's low.
So we got creative.
You should know about Charleston- if you don't already- that when friends are in town you WILL go out to eat. It's impossible not to! There are just thousands of good restaurants that make up the DNA of the city. There were some places we just HAD to take them :) To even things out, most of the time we chose Mexican or shared a meal. If you're in Charleston, try La Hacienda or Yo, Burrito. Yum. Mexican is the way to go if you need to eat cheap (our real secret is sharing a Mexican meal!! Come on! It does not get any more economically friendly than free chips and salsa and a shared combo meal.)
We also made a point to show them the natural beauty of our city.
Check. This. Out.
Isn't it amazing?! And it's free to look at. What a good excuse to experience the outdoors- doing it with friends. Even if that's just a nice park or a walk through the woods.
We definitely also took then to the beach- twice.
What are some cool nature things in your city?
We lucked out on some Groupon deals too! The U. S. S. Yorktown is an old aircraft carrier that is open for tours and we got 50% off thanks to Groupon. Score! Always check for deals first, I say. Ok I've never said that, but I mean it!
Sometimes it's just fun to go stare at something random too, like a train set in a mall or a shipyard at night. It's the company that really matters anyway, right?
In the end, It's the friendship and laughing and conversation that make the time worthwhile and enjoyable- not so much the money spent.
